When More Income Doesn’t Create More Financial Freedom

    May 18, 2026 /

For decades, many families have been told that the answer to financial stress is simple: earn more money. Work more hours, add another income stream, start a side hustle, pick up overtime, or find ways to increase household income. But in the pursuit of financial stability, many people never stop to ask an important question: What is the true cost of maintaining that lifestyle? Between childcare, commuting expenses, convenience meals, workplace spending, and the pressure of constantly trying to keep up with modern life, some families may discover that simplifying life and reducing expenses creates more financial breathing room than increasing income alone. And while increasing income can absolutely help…

The Small Things Make Room for the Big Things

    May 2, 2026 /

I used to think homemaking happened in large bursts of effort. An entire day spent cleaning. Hours catching up on laundry. Big exhausting resets after everything had fallen behind. And sometimes, life truly does require those moments. But over time, I’ve discovered something gentler and far more sustainable: small things done consistently create room for the things that matter most. Wiping the counter after making coffee takes only a moment. Putting things back where they belong prevents overwhelming clutter later. Starting a load of laundry before breakfast keeps it from becoming an all-day mountain by the weekend. Picking up the living room in the evening means waking to peace instead…

    A Small Batch Still Matters

    April 24, 2026 /

For a long time, I thought food preservation had to be a major event. Every article, video, and homesteading post seemed to involve: huge harvests giant canning sessions endless prep work dozens upon dozens of perfectly labeled jars And honestly, it felt exhausting before I even started. Living in Florida has taught me that gardening—and preserving food—often looks very different here than it does in many other parts of the country. Large tomatoes don’t do especially well for us, but cherry tomatoes grow like they’re determined to take over the yard. Right now they’re coming on slowly, just a handful ripe each day. Years ago, I probably would have ignored…

Making Space for a More Simple Life

    March 10, 2025 /

Somewhere along the way, life became very loud. We are constantly connected, constantly reachable, constantly consuming information, and constantly feeling like we should be doing more. Even our homes—which were once places of rest and refuge—have slowly become another source of pressure. Social media feeds us endless images of spotless kitchens, perfectly organized pantries, elaborate homesteads, and carefully curated lives. The result is that many people now feel exhausted before they’ve even started. But I don’t believe homemaking was ever meant to feel performative. For much of history, homes were simply lived in. They weren’t perfect, but they were cared for. Meals were prepared, laundry was folded, gardens were tended,…
